MIND YOUR EMAIL MANNERS

Taken from the "Harvard Communications Update" by Nick Morgan of Philadelphia.

  • Delete email you don't need to know or act on.
  • Refrain from sending attachments.
  • If you are reprimanding, rewarding or firing, do it in person rather than by email.
  • Keep you email address book up-to-date.
  • Do not respond to chain email.
  • Keep rumours and innuendo about real people to yourself.
  • If you wouldn't say it in person, don't say it in email.
  • Communications hierarchy - face-to-face meetings, phone calls, voice mail and, finally, email.
  • If the task requires perfection, do not send it via email. A letter would be better.

TIME TO REJUVENATE

Summer is often a quieter time for many businesses. If this is so in your case, then take time to rejuvenate yourself for the hectic season soon to come.

Some things to consider:

  • Get plenty of rest. Go to bed at the same time at night and rise at the same time in the morning.
  • Having a bad day? Enjoy it -- you decided to have it. Just remember to also decide tomorrow will be a good day and look for the good things.
  • To get energy, sometimes it is as simple as getting off the sofa and moving. This will be easier if you focus on something you'd like to get up and do.
