DIRECT MAIL

Direct mail does work! Of course, in just a few seconds people decide whether to read it, stack it, pass it on to someone else or file it in the round file. To ensure success with your direct mail, try the following:

  • Design it so it is noticed amongst other mail.
  • Put an actual stamp on the envelope, not an electronic stamp.
  • Think about HOW TO GET IT OPENED.
  • Write like you talk – simple and clear.
  • Make it easy to understand and follow.
  • Provide an additional benefit or value.
  • Ask for the order.

TIME TO ENJOY

Walk to work on these beautiful summer days.

Take your lunch to the park.

EDIT YOUR WORK

Sometimes our writing is stilted and too formal. There are a few simple guidelines to make our writing more readable:

  • The majority (80%) of your sentences need to be less than 14 words for the ease of the reader.
  • On average, a paragraph should contain about four sentences.
  • Write like you talk.
  • Start sentences with "You", "Your", "Them", and "They" instead of "I", "Me", "My", and "Our". (The reader hears "I" when you use "you", which makes them feel more important.)
  • In your sentences, have more "you's" than "I's", or at least the same number. (The reader prefers to hear about themselves.)
