LIVE AND LEARN... HOPEFULLY

Most people think learning is done when you graduate from school. Not true! It's one of those strange misconceptions we allow to guide our lives. Learning happens in school; but you learn so much more from life!

Life's experiences cause us to learn - and when things go wrong, we learn even more! Remember Thomas Edison? He learned over 1000 ways a light bulb does not work. Then he discovered the way it does.

When life is moving along well, we rarely learn a lesson. It's those difficult times that teach us something. Rather than getting frustrated and upset, embrace the things that irritate, that go wrong and learn from them. How? Ask yourself these questions:

  • Why did this happen?
  • What is the result of this situation?
  • What have I learned from this experience?

Remember, you choose what you will take away from life's experiences. When you answer the above questions and discover you have learned something, give yourself a hug - you've just taken YOU to a new level of learning, and of life.

in the classroom." -- Thomas Merton

MARKET YOU - NO MATTER WHAT!

It's summer, with the kind of hot, humid weather that can really wear down your temper. However, your customers don't care how you feel! They may be grouchy, short tempered or just plain nasty but they still expect you to be pleasant and upbeat! There are a few things you can do to keep your cool and leave a good impression...

  • Smile, no matter what
  • Continue to dress professionally - in an office, this means leaving the sandals, the t-shirts, tank tops, shorts and skimpy sun dresses at home
  • Approach each prospective client with a positive remark...
    • “Welcome to ______. This is definitely a cool place to be on a hot day like today.”
    • “Come in, it's great to see you!”
    • “Are you shopping for a gift or treating yourself?”
Don't allow the weather, your clients, anything, to affect the good impression you leave when you market you!
