It's
the Christmas season, the time when love and laughter abound.
Or do they?
Peoples'
nerves get frazzled - there's too much to do and not enough time
to do it. There's too many Christmas get-togethers. Invariably
you'll have two or even three functions to go to on the same night.
It can be chaotic, this time of peace!
There
are a few things we can all do to help get through this festive
occasion with our sanity intact. Give some consideration to these
suggestions:
- Get
enough sleep - eight or nine hours will leave you in top form.
- Power
nap through the day or calm your mind and nervous system by
deep breathing relaxation techniques.
- Plan
for one or two quiet evenings at home each week.
- Organize
your work into Must do before the holidays and then have two
other lists - Nice to do and So what. You might consider throwing
out the So what pile. It's probably things that aren't very
important anyway.
- Treat
yourself every day. Give yourself a reward for accomplishing
one major task every day.
- Plan
ahead. You only have approximately two weeks left until Christmas.
Give yourself a task each day rather than leaving them all to
do at once.
- Phone
or see a friend every day. This gives your day a perk and you
feel good.
Planning
for the work and the fun is one task which makes your days and
weeks go ahead more smoothly. There will always be too much to
do. With a little bit of planning, you can figure out your priorities
and then act on only those.
Cheers
and Merry Christmas!

Now
is a good time to plan your professional and personal development
for next year. Take some time for quiet self-reflection
and think about the areas where you want to grow. Perhaps
it's time management, gardening, building relationships
or improving your database skills.
Whatever
it is, there are so many books, newsletters, workshops,
teleclasses and online learning opportunities. You are sure
to find what you need in a format that fits your learning
style and a time that fits your schedule.
Then,
don't just think about it - do it! "Develop a passion
for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow."
