VALUES
-- "Walk the Talk" --
Value
in the Webster's dictionary is defined as a fair return or
equivalent in goods, services or money for something exchanged.
In today's business world that definition is not enough anymore.
Today's average business person's values have changed.
Many
organizations have added values to their vision statement. We
often hear words like friendly, courteous
and service in value statements. Although these organizations
mean well, (I hate to point out the obvious) not everyone working
for these organizations displays these values.
Today,
companies need to walk the talk in order to keep clients
satisfied. It is no longer enough to just stand for something
noble, to say you value this particular conduct or service. Now
companies have to prove they are noble.
How
many times have you walked into a restaurant claiming to serve
the world's best...fish, burgers, whatever,... then upon ordering
realize it's not the best, it's not even very good? What happened
to the value they promised?
When
everyone within the organization lives the values the organization
stands for, the results can be dramatic. Every time clients are
happy with a product or service, they tell five friends and associates!
On the other hand, every time clients are displeased they tell
15 others. This word-of-mouth marketing can make or break a company.
In
order to help you walk the talk, we have redefined value...
Price + Quality Service + Time + Personal Enhancement = Value
The
key to living your organizational values is to train management
and staff properly. Lead from the inside out, with a clear vision
that is shared company wide. Have tools in place to determine
how everyone is following through on walking corporate
values. We'll discuss some of these measurement tools in our next
issue.
