Leading
Others with Heart
Leaders need skills - good communications,
knowledge of diverse business areas and the ability to see what
needs to be done and how best to do it.
However, even more important than
these skills, they need to able to lead with heart - they need
to have empathy and get people to follow because they WANT to,
not because they HAVE to. And when is the best time to assess
these leadership skills, the innate people skills? Before you
hire!
Ensuring leaders will...
- fit your culture
- have the skills to
run the organization
will mean the difference between
the success and the failure of the organization.
People, your staff, will make
or break organizational success. Those people need the opportunity
to use their best judgment when dealing with situations rather
than always having to ask permission. Good leaders will help their
people develop to their full potential, learning good judgment,
learning to think on their feet and make decisions that will benefit
the organization. And then, after these skills are learned, good
leaders will let the people use these skills to better themselves
and the organization.
Leadership can be learned; it's
just easier if you hire personnel already possessing good leadership
qualities. There are tools to use to help you in assessing a candidates
abilities. It would be a wise investment to get these tools or
to hire someone to help you in your recruiting. Then you can ensure
your organization is full of leaders with heart.

Yeah,
Volunteers!
Regina is hosting Jeux du Canada Summer Games.
A massive amount of work has gone into preparing for this
hours and hours of time, mostly by volunteers with full time work
and families. How has it been possible?
Most employers have been very supportive of
volunteer efforts by allowing their people time from work to take
care of volunteer duties. It's a smart thing to do, actually.
Volunteering helps people build valuable skills
and abilities that can be put to good use at work:
- organization
- communication
- leadership and team
building
- problem solving
- and the list goes on
and on
It also boosts their own feelings of self worth
and helps them feel good about helping others.
Let's hear it for those people who volunteer
and support volunteers. They make the organization and the community
a better place for all.

Quote
of the Month
"Leadership is always understanding that
one man or woman can make a difference if we are willing to
be strong enough to give and not take, to know that true success
isn't about us, it is about those we serve."
