In Search of a New Job

With the transitory nature of jobs these days, and our own desire for new and different experiences, we can all expect to be looking for a new job sometime during our careers. Cenera, a talent management firm in Calgary, Alberta, conducted a study of middle managers searching for new positions. They discovered:

  • It took, on average, three months to secure a new position, down from four months in the early 90's.
  • The vast majority of new jobs were found through networking. That has been the trend every year but one since 1993.
  • Most returned to full-time, permanent employment in the same job function and same industry. And, interestingly enough, many of the rest started their own businesses.
  • As for salary, of the ones who reported their new salary, most earned the same as or more than they received in their previous position.

Some Time Spent with the Governor General

On Tuesday, May 9, Governor General Michaelle Jean was in Regina. One of her events was a walking tour of a north-central neighbourhood initiating a program to provide housing and hope for low income and First Nation families. Dimension 11 has been provided career, parenting and self awareness training to First Nation people, and, because of Tamara Reis's role as facilitator of these training sessions, she was invited to attend the Governor General's session. Tamara met the Governor General and had a good chat with her husband, Jean-Daniel Lafond. Pictured is Tamara and Canada's Governor General, Michaelle Jean.
